DataVaccinator pseudonymisation “vaccinates” your sensitive data and protects it against abuse. At the very moment when data is being generated, DataVaccinator splits that data and uses advanced pseudonymisation techniques to separate content from identity information. Managing these two categories via independent data services mitigates data privacy and security risks and ensures compliance with GDPR. DataVaccinator remembers the relationship between split data and can reverse the split upon demand. By industrializing these processes, DataVaccinator makes secure data management efficient and affordable. DataVaccinator is open source and gives programmers the power to use its modules in any application, thereby increasing security of data and lowering the costs of data management.

How do we industrialise pseudonymisation?

Pseudonymisation is an established concept but traditionally it is applied too late in the process, as post-processing of sensitive data, and not upon data generation. This leaves the original data pool at risk. In the online era, realtime requirements challenge this tradition as proven by daily leakages. In order to mitigate cyber risks of sensitive health data, identifiable data of a person (PID/PII) should be managed separately from the content data, at any time. This is what DataVaccinator enabled applications do. Instead of storing PID/PII, that data is stored in the DataVaccinator Vault. This process returns an identifier, the Vaccination ID (VID). On application level, data can be merged in realtime and transparent to the end user. Encryption ensures that only eligible parties can access the data. Thus, even in the case of a data leakage, risk is low as unauthorised parties cannot relate the content to a person, or vice versa. Also, service providers operate at much lower risk as PID/PII are not contained.

For certified DataVaccinator applications, we offer secure and redundant hosting of your encrypted PID/PII in the DataVaccinator Vault. Our hosting provides web access using a SSL secured REST API (https). The access is limited to dedicated IP addresses, thereby limiting access to eligible parties.
